Most days I take great care of my skin. The serums, the retinols, the exfoliators…yeah, I do all that on the regular. I use so many great products that oftentimes salespeople don’t know what to sell me…perhaps a lesson on self-control but that’s another story. However, despite my efforts there’s comes a time when I feel I need a good old professional microdermabrasion to keep things smooth and silky.
In addition to the cleansing, steam, extractions and mask that are included with a regular facial I occasionally opt for a brush tip microdermabrasion treatment to really help sweep away my dead skin and inevitably I end up with this natural glow that drugstore products just can’t mimic. I’ve experienced different kinds of microdermabrasion methods, crystal tip, diamond tip, and even an at home version from an infomercial.
To be honest I’ve seen good results with all the different types of tips, even an older microderm machine will dance circles around a manual cleansing of soap and water. The sensation is best described as moist, gentle sandpaper lightly glossing over your face in short strokes. It isn’t uncomfortable in any way and if you have an oily t-zone like me with horribly enlarged pores (thanks a lot long-wear makeup) you can’t help but feel a delicious feeling of clean.
The natural flush that accompanies each treatment makes it so worthwhile and while this old school facial treatment may seem unnecessary and outdated, I remind you there’s a reason why it’s still around and the process relatively unchanged. Tried and true can withstand any trend. 😊
