Lindora: Part 1
I am a professional dieter. I don’t ever lose weight exactly; it’s more like I set it aside where it’s easily assessable again. I’ve tried many, many things to keep myself at a healthy weight and while everyone is different I feel it’s important to share my story(ies) and hopefully they resonate with some of you. Living in California, I’ve seen Lindora Clinics everywhere. Even though I’ve never set foot in one before I always associated Lindora with a sort of retro 80’s vibe. I think the medically supervised weight loss sector that includes supplements, shakes and shelf-stable food is old school…however by the same token it does often times prove successful; even if just temporary. I went into my first consult and was met with medical questionnaires and an onslaught of consent forms.
The premise of the diet was explained to me; four “protein” days designed to put me in ketosis, followed by four weeks of menu days (you can go longer than four weeks if you choose) with one protein day per week during that time. Prepackaged, specially formulated high protein food is provided and during the rest of the program you have options to incorporate home cooked fresh foods and/or chef-prepared meals purchased through them. You are supposed to visit the clinic most every day for optional booster shots, and evaluations ensuring you are responding to the program.
It was a little overwhelming but I understood the premise of the program, high protein foods, quality carbs in controlled amounts plus added supplementation to help facilitate rapid weight loss…got it! It’s not cheap, even after some discounts and promotions my four week program came close to $900 not including any of the vitamin or additional supplementation they recommend and ultimately purchased. I bit the (low-carb) bullet and signed up. I was sent away with two bags filled with food, shakes, pamphlets and a guide-book. I was told there is an optional but highly recommended diet prep that helps the transition.
I came back in a few days later for fasting bloodwork, a couple days after that I met with a nurse who went over my results and green-lighted me for the program. I read the book cover to cover, ended up with more questions than answers so I met with another nurse who patiently answered all my questions so that I felt completely comfortable. Now, I have everything I need to begin but it the spirit of a chronic dieter I cannot start my diet until after I return from my vacation. To be continued….
