Essential Oils

Essential Oils have become a go-to not only for yogis and spiritual people but for people that are trying natural ways to cure, enhance and find therapeutic ways to improve their lives and health. There has been evidence of therapeutic oils being used in Egypt, India, and China as early as 3000-2500 B.C. Think about it, if these oils were used during a period of time without any medicinal or technological advancements like the ones we have now..why would we NOT use them? It is only logical to use something that nature has provided us; if these oils help the trees and plants fight off their own illness and thrive in their environment, why couldn’t it do the same to our own organism?

Now, we obviously have to select the right essential oils that come from companies that use high quality and trusted ingredients. These top quality essential oils could be used topical, aromatic, and internal. For the essential oils newbies such as myself, I have done some research to find the top 5 essential oils that beginners are encouraged to start off with and then slowly add to their collection.

The top five are:

Lavender is an anti-bacterial, anti-depressant, anti-inflammatory oil, which has a multitude of functions. It helps alleviate headaches, it soothes burns and wounds, improves sleep quality, restores skin complexion, reduces emotional stress and anxiety and provides a multitude of antioxidants.

Frankincense can balance hormone levels, maintain radiant skin, reduce inflammation, improve oral health, reduce stress, can act as a sleep-aid and can even reduce wrinkles.

Lemon has anti-bacterial and antifungal properties which make it a great cleaner for inside our bodies and inside our home. It also acts as a thirst quencher and can aid in digestion, nourish the skin, help us lose weight, it calms the stomach and relieves nausea and can even uplift our mood (we can especially use this during the daily California 405 traffic).

Peppermint  is really great at curing bad breath, soothing stomach issues, it relieves colic pain and gas, helps with headaches, improves mental focus and provides you with more energy.

Tea Tree is a great antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral and antiseptic oil that helps ward off fungal infections. It is great at eliminating dandruff and soothing dry, flaky skin, it helps with respiratory tract infections, cold sores, earaches and even helps cure bad breath.

These amazing oils are used in massage treatments to relax our bodies and they are the first scent you smell when you walk into a spa or yoga class which welcome us with an immediate relaxation vibe. There are over 90 oils and each has such a vast multitude of uses that it would take a lot of time to dissect their individual and blended benefits. I am just excited to see what kind of changes these 5 particular oils will have in our home.
