Kettlebell Kitchen: Customized Fat Loss Plan

I haven’t tried a meal delivery service in quite some time so when I came across an AD for this Brooklyn based, fitness inspired meal service I had to try it. My initial impression from their website is that it’s marketed more towards men- very large, muscly men to be exact who spend their days lifting, their afternoons bronzing and their evenings fist-pumping. They have plans for muscle gain, paleo, vegan, sport performance and more. I chose the only plan that made sense to me which was fat loss and was expecting a standard meal preference option with lots of tasty sounding names.

What sets the ordering apart is that based on your goals you can skip the customization completely and allow them to create a plan just for you. I liked that because sometimes the endless options get overwhelming. The second interesting thing is that you have the option to choose your serving size. You choose small, medium or large depending on your appetite, caloric restriction or requirements. That detail alone lead me to believe that this was less geared towards Fabletics wearing Barre ballerinas and more Mega- fit CrossFit junkies which worried me a little because my current physical  activity rivals that of a garden gnome. I got my food on time, some packages were broken upon delivery but hey, it happens sometimes. Their customer service was responsive and handed it well. The foods itself, well here are the pros and cons:

Pros: The food was fresh, with decent texture and spiced really, really well. Typically bland foods like egg whites were actually tasty when well-seasoned. Taste-wise this surpassed my expectations.

Cons: It’s A LOT of food, now that usually isn’t a con by any means but for a fat loss program its seemed counterintuitive that I’d be eating mega portions of food 3x a day with fat grams in the 20-30 range and calorie counts in the 400-600 range. Not to mention the meals were heavy and oftentimes oil-slicked so while it added to the taste I wondered if it negates the whole weight loss premise.

Bottom line- if you are looking for a meal plan that’s high in protein, healthy fats and can fuel a moderate to intense workout program than Kettlebell Kitchen is a solid choice. If you are looking for light, delicate meals, look elsewhere.
