Lashes for Days

Lashes for Days

I have the smallest eyes you’ve ever seen. Seriously, I make beavers look bright and doe-eyed so I’ve always been a bit obsessed about enhancing my eyes. I go dramatic on my eye makeup most days, I don’t stop slathering on the mascara until Tammy Faye Bakker would be proud and whenever I go without my signature winged eyeliner I inevitably get told I look tired all-day long. This is one of the reasons I’ve always loved long, full fabulous lashes.

Any event or evening out is not complete until my lashes resemble glamorous spiders. To idea of having lush lashes everyday seemed amazing so I took the plunge and got myself a pair of snazzy mink lash extensions so I can rock my signature look everyday sans glue. Here’s how it went down: First, I had to find someone who does lash extensions and as it turns out it’s a lot more popular than I thought however many technicians proudly offered a natural lash look so I had to search around until I found someone who was willing to pile them on until it almost impaired my vison. Next, I had to carve out at least 90 minutes, seriously this is not a lunchtime pick-me-up, it’s a drink no liquids, take it easy on caffeine, Zen out for close to 2 hours type event.

The process was painless, the glue didn’t sting or smell and her touch was so light it almost felt like nothing was happening. I got to hand it to the artists who can fan out two or three individual lashes onto each of my natural lashes while envisioning the end look and fanning them out accordingly. The patience and steady hand it takes is incredible. A little over 2 hours later I looked in the mirror and OMG. My lashes were like BOOM…. they walked into the room before I did. I loved them, then came the harsh reality. These babies required some serious TLC, taking a shower and washing my face now became a painstakingly delicate task. The occasional non-thinking eye rub became a swift death of my beloved minkies (as I lovingly named them.) I quickly realized these high payoff babies were also high maintenance, and I probably wouldn’t make it to my pre-planned 3-week appointment.

Despite my best efforts it was a sad sight a little over a week later. I realized that I was going to need maintenance every week if I wanted to keep up my bombshell look. Time and money had other plans for me so I am now back to my homely state of beady eyed basicness. My final thoughts…if you have the time and money go for it, otherwise slap on those falsies when duty calls and make sure no one is around when they come off. 😊
